"Cake sculpture is a very satisfying art form - both in making it and in eating it! This instructional video is ideal for producing a creamy and smooth finish on your cakes using buttercream, mimicking the look of fondant but without the texture of fondant. Learn to carve your cake and cover it in buttercream to make a variety of animals using the PDF pattern included. Even beginners can accomplish these projects with ease."

Deanna O'Connor

This lesson is targeted to beginners who would like to learn cake sculpture in buttercream, but assumes a basic understanding of icing consistencies and some really basic piping techniques. The pdf pattern included with the dvd is a basic animal shape (side and top views) that can be made into many different types of animals. Deanna teaches a basic dog with long curly ears, and shows how to make upright ears as a variation. Then she concludes with a sleeping lion used as a topper on a sheet cake, using the same basic animal template but changing the position of the head and legs, using different ears and a different tail. By incorporating the variations Deanna shows, you can also make bears, cats, and rabbits easily. Examples of those animal cakes are shown at the end of the lesson.

The run time is approx. 44 minutes and you may order the dvd for $20 here
